This couple and their story is so very special in so many ways. I know Monica from when I photographed the wedding of Matt and Alethea (Monica’s sister) five years ago, and have continued to photograph them over the years. Alethea told me last year that her sister, Monica, was getting married on Mackinac Island and that she was interested in having me photograph their wedding. Then she told me that Monica was battling breast cancer and that they were considering putting off the wedding until after treatments, but that they just wanted to be married and were going to do it as soon as possible. When I met with Monica and Travis and heard the whole story, my heart was touched forever and I not only knew their day was going to be more special than words can describe, but that I saw the deepest of love and respect between them, and I knew it would be amazing to photograph their day.
Enter Mackinac Island. An island in northern Michigan where cars do not exist. Green foliage, lilac trees, flowers everywhere, horse drawn carriages, quaint era themed streets, bicycles everywhere, and of course, Mackinac fudge. The place is a dream. Straight out of a movie.
So, combine Mackninac Island with Travis and Monica…two of the most in love people I have ever met…and the day was magical.
You can read more of Monica’s story here.
It’s a long post…enjoy 🙂
Travis’ detail shots photographed by my second shooter, Laurel.

To me, this photo sums them up. I mean, you don’t understand how in love these two are, people!!! It was beautiful to watch.
