my heart is full

meet k. she is like every other little six year old girl…except that she just had brain and skull surgery a month ago. her mother realized in the hospital that she didn’t have any pictures with her little girl…so that’s where i came in. i feel completely honored and privileged to have spent time with these two and capture them together.

little k has been through so much and yet had the most wonderful, beautiful spirit. this session was a celebration of her…and the amazing relationship she has with her mother.

I hope her mother doesn’t mind if I share her words…”a woman once told me that to have a child is to suddenly wear your heart outside of your body…exposed and vulnerable. when i became a mother, i understand those words with blinding clarity.”

go on, go give your kids a GIANT hug.

These pictures are beautiful! Particulary poignant for me as this woman is my best friend and Little K is my “neice” …what a wonderful thing to see these happy and celebratory faces after having seen them marked with incredible worry, suffering, exhaustion and excruciating pain. Nothing but happy days ahead! Beautiful!!

  12. K's Mommy says:

It’s been interesting to hear the different interpretations of K’s expression in the last photo from our family and friends. As her mommy I look at that image and am reminded of a quote…Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, “I will try again tomorrow.”

  13. Whitney McCoy says:

*goosebumps* These are fantastic images… and the story behind them.. just beautiful.

On a side note…. I’d love to get together next month when I’m home. Kelli wants to meet up to. I have a few sessions that I’m doing while I’m there, but I can work around them.
